A paper lantern, carried over from a riverside village into the living room.
A handmade mulberry-paper shade is stretched over an iron wire frame, a modern take on the traditional Japanese paper lantern. The design draws on the lanterns of Gifu, where fishermen have worked the Nagara River by lantern light for centuries; the iron frame replaces the old bamboo. The long, soft fibers of the paper spread the light evenly, and every shade varies a little in grain and tone. Fit it with a standard E26 or E27 bulb, LED or vintage Edison, bought separately.
Two sizes for two kinds of surface. The smaller lantern sits on a nightstand or a desk, and the larger one carries a console, a sideboard or a corner of a living room or a hotel lounge. A push-button on the cord turns it on and off.

A lantern for your table
Lester stretches handmade mulberry washi over an iron wire frame, a modern take on the traditional Japanese paper lantern. It elevates a nightstand, a desk or a console with the calm of a riverside village.
Light carried by fibers
The long, soft fibers of the paper spread the light evenly, so the whole shade glows warm and gentle. Lester turns a late evening read or a quiet dinner into something serene.
Every shade its own
Every handmade shade varies a little in grain and tone, so yours is truly its own. Switched off, the white paper still reads as a soft sculpture on the table.

-
The compact lantern sits beautifully on a nightstand or a desk, while the large one carries a console, a sideboard or a living room corner. If the space allows it, the large size makes the bigger statement.
-
Beautifully. A large lantern on a console with a compact one nearby creates a relaxed, layered glow, and a matching pair on two nightstands feels serene. You save 10 percent on two.
-
Yes, and that is the charm. Each handmade washi shade varies slightly in grain and tone, so your Lester carries a quiet character no other lamp quite shares.
