Alan looks like a piece of the karst plateau, cut into a drum and set flat against the ceiling.

Each one is handmade individually from a composite that is sculpted and pitted to echo the limestone around Trieste, so no two surfaces come out quite alike. The body is a straight-sided tube fixed directly to the ceiling — no cord, no rod, nothing hanging below it. The underside is open and stepped back behind an inner ring, which tucks the integrated LED up out of view and sends a defined cone of warm light straight down. The result is a downlight with real texture to it, rather than a fitting you stop noticing after a week.

The short body sits close and quiet, which suits a bedside table, a narrow nook, or a run of them spaced down a hallway so they read as one line. The taller body has more presence and holds its own over a dining table or a kitchen island. Color settles the rest: black for contrast against pale plaster, brick red and orange yellow for warmth, white yellow when you want the surface itself to do the talking.
