Nikanor draws one clean line of light across the wall, and that is nearly all you see of it. The body is a single length of aluminum in black or white, with the LED built in. Six lengths mean you fit the light to the wall rather than to whatever a shop happens to stock — the shortest beside a bed, the longest running most of a hallway. Three light colors are built in, so the room changes and the fixture does not.

In a bedroom it does the job two nightstand lamps used to do and gives you the surface back. Above a desk it stays clear of everything a desk actually has to hold. Late in the evening you take it down from the remote and it stops feeling like a work light. Black stays quiet against a dark wall; white all but vanishes on a pale one.

Black: for dark walls and dark cabinetry, when you want the fitting to stay in the background.

White: for pale walls, where it disappears completely once it is switched off.
