Ophion is a block of black stone with the light hidden inside it.
A solid, sculpted body of travertine in a matte black finish, with the porous surface left every bit as rough as the quarry made it. The bulb is concealed and the light leaves through an aperture at the bottom, which means you never see the source from a normal standing height — only the pool it makes on the wall. It takes an E26 or E27 bulb, and a warm filament is what the dark stone was designed around.
Two heights on the same square footprint. The shorter is the subtler of the two and disappears into a hallway until it is switched on. The taller has real presence and a slightly wider pool of light beneath it. Both work in pairs, and flanking a mirror, a door or a picture is where the block form leaves lamp territory altogether.
