Erebos is stone with the pale taken out of it and the pores left in.
The body is a cylinder of genuine travertine, coated matte black so the whole piece reads as one deep tone, with the porous texture still there under your hand. It stands off a walnut backplate — warm wood holding a cold column, which is the contrast the fixture is built on. The bulb is an E26, so an LED or an Edison filament both work, and a warm filament suits the black stone and the walnut better than anything cool. Travertine forms through thousands of years of physical and chemical change, and the pore pattern under the black is unrepeatable.
Four heights, and the taller two do something the shorter two do not. The shortest throws its light downward only, which is the one for a bedside or a tight hallway where a column is all the presence the wall can take. The next height up works the same way and suits a living room or a run of feature wall. From the third height on, the light goes up as well as down and lays a second wash on the wall above — worth having where you want the room read taller. The tallest is architecture, and earns it flanking a fireplace or a large piece of artwork.

One thing before you buy a bulb for it: the stone cylinder is sized for a standard or compact bulb. Oversized smart bulbs — a full-size Philips Hue A19, for instance — carry a longer base and will sit slightly proud of the open end.

The 12.6 inch and the 23.6 inch throw light up as well as down. The 6.3 inch and 9.1 inch are downward only, and all four share the same 2.6 inch diameter.
