Maiandros never runs straight. The black metal frame bends its way up from the floor and carries a fabric shade in beige, white or dark green. It plugs into the wall like a table lamp, so it stands wherever there is an outlet — beside an armchair, in a bedroom corner, at the end of a sofa where a side table will not fit. Nothing about it needs an electrician.
Most of a living room is rectangles: the sofa, the rug, the shelves, the television. This is the one thing in it that curves, and it does that standing in a corner where nothing much else would go. Beside a reading chair it sits at the right height to read by. And it moves with the furniture, which a ceiling fitting will never do.

Beige: the easiest of the three — warm against wood, cream and most painted walls.
White: the cleanest, and the one that steps back against a pale wall so the frame is what you see.
