Chrysothemis is a globe of stone standing on gold.
The globe is the shade: white alabaster in one version, green marble in the other, both on gold metal. Stone at this thickness never goes transparent, so the glow gathers at the surface instead of pouring through it — nearer a lit moon than a lit bulb. The two behave differently once the lamp is on: alabaster reads milky and even, while the marble keeps its veining visible right through the light. The socket underneath is the common screw type, so bulbs are whatever the hardware store has on a shelf.
Take the alabaster where the job is to soften a room — a bedroom, a guest room, a corner that already has plenty going on. Take the green marble where the room is plain and could use one piece carrying color: an entry table, a study, a shelf with books stacked behind it.
