Peirene is wrought iron taught to curve like a swan.

Each arm is a long gooseneck curve of wrought iron that ends in a white glass globe. The glass is dense enough to turn the bulb into a soft, even glow rather than a bright point, which is why it sits comfortably at eye level over a table. The iron is finished in gold or black, and the globes are white with either. It hangs from a canopy on suspension rods, hardwired, so it holds its height instead of swinging on a cord.

Gold is the warmer of the two and belongs in a room that already has wood, brass or warm paint working for it, above a dining table where the finish catches the bulb light. Black is the quieter choice, and it keeps its outline against a pale ceiling in a living room or a bedroom. The white globes are the same in both, so the finish is really a decision about the metal.
