A cylinder of yellow travertine on a wood base, with a brass joint between them and a head that turns. The light is focused rather than spread, which is what makes it useful over a picture, a shelf of books, or a bed where one person reads and the other does not. The bulb is an E26 at around five watts, so an LED or an Edison filament both fit. Travertine forms through geological change nobody managed, and the cylinder on yours carries a grain that belongs only to it.
One size, two woods. Walnut is the darker and sits well on a wall that already has depth to it — a gallery wall, a bookcase, a dark headboard. The lighter wood keeps out of the way against pale plaster and leaves the stone as the only material to look at. It mounts on a wall or a ceiling, so aiming it down a corridor or across an alcove are both on the table.
