Idmon puts the switch on the end of a chain, where it has always belonged.
Yellow travertine and warm wood, with metal between them. What it gives is soft and focused rather than broad, which is what makes it a reading fixture and not a room one. The bulb is an E26, so an LED or an Edison filament both go in and the character of the light stays yours to set. Travertine is quarried rather than made, and the stone on the piece you receive was finished by processes that stopped long before anyone thought of lamps.
Two woods, one size. Walnut is the darker of them and does well against a painted wall or a bookcase. The lighter wood keeps quiet next to oak and pale plaster. Either belongs beside a reading chair, in an entryway, or along a hallway — the chain is the reason, because you reach for it without looking, and it takes an ordinary wall switch just as well.
