Nobody needs another remote, and three of Eupolis' four versions run off the wall switch you already have. The band is aluminum and silicone, spiraling through two loops. It comes in white or black, in two diameters, with the LED built in and no bulb to buy. The fourth version is the remote-dimmable one, and it is there if you want the light to move across an evening.

Living with Eupolis comes down to which version you ordered. The two fixed temperatures do one thing and keep doing it, which is what you want over a kitchen island where nobody is adjusting anything. The 3-step version cycles on the switch itself, so it changes with no extra hardware. The remote version belongs in a dining room, where the light has to do a different job at eight than at six.

Warm White — the fixed warm setting at 3000K, and the one to order where the light never needs to change.

White — the fixed cool setting at 6000K, which suits a kitchen, a utility room or a work surface.

3 Step Dimming — cycles through its settings on the wall switch, which suits a kitchen when your hands are full.

Dimmable — the remote-controlled version; pick it when the light has to change through the evening.

18'' — the narrower ring, and enough on its own above a breakfast bar, a landing or a desk.

24'' — the wider ring; take it when the surface underneath is long enough to need it.

White — the choice when the ceiling is already white and you want the ring to belong to it.

Black — the choice when the room has black in it already: beams, window frames, cabinet hardware.
