Turn Gelanor off and you are left with a gold circle and a crown of soft peaks hanging below the ceiling; turn it on and a white line appears right around the underside. The band above that line stays dark. The peaks rise off the ring in a slow wave, no two of them the same height. The middle of the ring is open, so the ceiling shows straight through it.
In a bedroom this is the thing you see last at night and first in the morning, which is the argument for the gold — it holds some warmth in it even switched off. The white one does the opposite and stays level with a pale ceiling until it lights up. On the dimmable version a remote runs the light from warm evening through to daylight, so the room changes job without anyone getting out of bed.
White: for a pale ceiling, a child's room, or anywhere you want the crown shape and none of the shine.
Gold: for a room that already has warm metal, wood or brass in it. This is the version people notice, lit or not.
White (3000K): the fixed warm setting, and the simpler of the two to live with. Take it where the light only ever has one job.
Dimmable: comes with a remote that runs the whole range from warm to daylight. Worth the difference in a room that works in the day and then settles down at night.
