Look up into Hermione and you see rows of clear glass rods, lit from inside the metal band that holds them. The rods sit in stepped rows above and below the band, so the outline breaks up as you move around it. The band comes in brass, nickel or black. Bulbs sit behind the glass at the band, so what reaches you from a chair is light that has already come through the rods.
Over a round table the drum versions work like a centerpiece you never have to move. The linear ones run the length of a rectangular table or a kitchen counter, so the light lands from one end to the other. Lit, the glass picks the light up and carries it down through the stepped rows — and it all runs off your wall switch, no remote and no app.
D 23.6″: for a round table that seats four, an entryway, or an island that is more square than long.
D 31.5″: the one most round dining tables want — enough to fill the space above six chairs without crowding it.
D 39.4″: for a double-height room or a table that seats eight and up. It is by far the heaviest of the five, so check what your ceiling box is rated for.
Long 31.5″: for a rectangular table that seats six, or an island where a round drum would leave the two ends dark.
Long 39.4″: for a long island or a table that seats eight, where you want light along the whole run.
Brass: a warm brass, the softest of the three, and the one that shows most against a pale ceiling.
Nickel: cooler and calmer. Pick it if the room already has chrome or stainless in it.
