Adrasteia is a white sphere coming up out of black stone.
The body is genuine travertine, coated matte black so the whole piece reads as one tone, with the volcanic pore texture still in it. Cradled in that is an opal white glass orb — the only bright thing on the fixture, and the whole event. The bulb behind it is a G9, so an LED or an Edison-style G9 both work, and a warm one suits the black stone. Travertine forms over thousands of years of physical and chemical change, and the pores under the coating belong to no other piece.
One size and one finish, so this comes down to where it goes. It reads best on a wall with something dark near it — a headboard, a bookcase, a painted alcove — where the orb has something to come out of. A pull chain hangs on the fixture for the times you would rather not cross the room, and it takes an ordinary wall switch just as happily.
