Auxesia is brass carrying a diamond-cut acrylic shade.
Brass and optical acrylic, the shade faceted with what the original calls diamond cutting. Optical acrylic transmits hard, and that is exactly the intent: every facet catches the light and hands it back in pieces. Brass supplies the weight. Inside is a battery that charges over USB, and the only control is a touch — nothing trails across the table.
Brass with a clear shade is the only version made, so the question is where rather than which. It rewards being close to the eye: a nightstand, a bar top, one end of a desk, because the cutting is what you are paying for and it has to be seen to count. Against a dark wall on an open shelf it reads almost as jewelry.
