Peitho is a bowl cut from one block of stone, with the light pooling inside it.
One piece of travertine, carved into an upward curve, and the bulb sits inside it. The light goes up and through the stone instead of out at you, so there is no glare off it and the veining ends up lit from within. The bulb is a G9 and is not included; a warm one deepens the ochre in the yellow stone. Travertine forms by physical and chemical change beyond anyone's control, so veining, tone, pore pattern and translucency all differ piece to piece — that is the stone, not a fault in it.
Two stones are sold: the yellow, which is what most of the photography shows, and a black. Yellow reads warm and settles into a natural palette; black reads as an object on the wall and holds its own against paint. Either sits close enough to the wall for a corridor. One thing to settle first — it is not designed to drop onto a standard U.S. junction box. It screws to the wall on a concealed mount and is hardwired from there, so your electrician should see it before the day, not on it.
