Iris is a clear glass dome pendant - a bowl of transparent glass held in a blackened iron frame. Because the shade is clear rather than opaque, the bulb itself becomes part of the fixture, which makes it worth fitting something with a good filament. Light passes straight through and bounces off the curve of the bowl, so you get brightness with a warm, slightly theatrical scatter rather than a flat wash.
