Alkippe reaches off the wall and holds the light out where the room needs it.
It is built from metal, aluminum and brass, with the body and the shade finished to match in either white or black. The shade rotates separately from the arm, so once it is on the wall you aim the light at the page, not at the ceiling. The arm does the rest of the work, holding the light clear of the wall and covering ground a fixed fitting cannot reach. A standard E26 socket takes an LED or an Edison-style filament bulb, and it wires into a normal wall switch.
The one-arm versions are the reading lights: beside a bed, over a corner chair, or paired down a hallway where you want light without a table lamp. Step up through the longer one-arm reaches when the light has to clear a sofa or a console. The two-arm versions are for a broad wall — above a headboard, over a dining table, or on the long wall of an open room, where one fitting has to serve two ends of it. It still looks current because nothing on it is decorative.
