Nykteus is a walnut cylinder standing on a round of blackened stone.
The base is genuine travertine finished matte black, so the pore texture stays where it is and the color does not shift anywhere across the piece. On it sits a walnut cylinder holding the bulb — an E26, which takes an LED or an Edison-style filament, and a warm one suits both materials. A pull chain runs down from it, long enough to reach without getting up. Travertine forms through thousands of years of physical and chemical change, and the pores beneath the black are still the ones the ground made.
One size and one pairing, so this comes down to the wall and the reach. The chain is what makes it work beside a bed — you can turn it off from where you already are. It also takes an ordinary wall switch, which is the better answer in a living room where a hanging chain would be one more thing to look at.
