Metal and glass. Its body carries gold and chrome together — that pairing is fixed rather than chosen — and the glass in front of it comes in one of two colors. Two metals on one fitting is a deliberate move: it answers to the warm and the cool hardware already in the room — useful in a house where the handles and the taps refuse to agree.
Beige glass or white glass; the metal is the same behind either. Beige runs warmer and more period, and takes the edge off whatever bulb goes in. White is cleaner, brighter, more current. Neither is fabric, so a bulb behind either one stays partly visible; buy a bulb you would not mind looking at.
