Melia turns a bare bulb into something closer to lantern light.
The structure is genuine bamboo, made up with a fabric cover and metal fittings, so it carries the grain and small irregularities of the material rather than a uniform factory finish. The cover softens the light into a warm, even glow instead of letting the bulb show through. A warm Edison filament or a 2700K LED is the bulb to put in it; that is the one that reads amber through the cloth. It hangs from the ceiling on an adjustable cable and brings a natural material into a room that usually has none.
The white shade is the one to choose over a dining table or in a room you want brighter through the evening — it gives back more of the light. Black settles a room down, which suits a bar, a booth-lit corner or a kitchen island where the counter does the work. Then pick the material: cotton cloth or gauze, each offered in both shade colors. Either works in a restaurant, a large living room or above a long counter.
