Eidothea is the light of an overcast sky, held in plaster.

The diffuser is a cast plaster hemisphere on a metal body, and plaster is what makes the difference — it throws the light down evenly instead of throwing a bulb at the table. Six finishes are made, four of them the same two colors in two surfaces: matte reads soft and powdery, glossy reads polished and picks up the room. It takes a standard E26 or E27 bulb, so the warmth is yours to set — a warm LED globe at 2700–3000K is what the plaster was made to soften. It hangs on a 59-inch adjustable cable and wires into the ceiling.

Three sizes, and each one is doing a different job. The smallest is an accent — beside a bed, over a nightstand, in a hallway, or hung in a pair either side of a mirror. The middle size is the everyday answer over a kitchen island or a round dining table, close enough to read as a single pool of light. The largest is a statement and needs the room for it: a long dining table, an entrance hall, a double-height space where it can be seen from below and from the stairs. On finish, matte white and matte black sit quietly; glossy white and glossy black catch the light; gold is the warm metallic; rusty brown is the terracotta note for a warmer room.
